Funza Lushaka bursary for teaching degree

The Funza Lushaka Bursary Scheme, funded by the government, offers bursaries to
students who study for ateaching qualification in an
area of national priority, such as the foundation phase (which include pupils from grades R to 3), languages (including African languages), maths and science
- Recipients of the bursary will be
required to teach at a school or provincial education
department for the same number of years they received
the bursary.
- applicants for the bursary must already have been
accepted into an appropriate study programme at a
recognised higher education institution.

Funza Lushaka bursaries cover all the recipient’s
essential expenses : tuition,
full accommodation including meals, books and
learning materials, and a small allowance for monthly
living expenses.

Last year, there was a flood of application for the teaching degree and all the applicants did not get a bursary.

Over the 4 past years, 28 000 bursaries were awarded by the department of Education.
